The Elisha Generation
The Elisha Generation

The Elisha Generation
“Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of him?” So one of the servants of the king Israel answered and said, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.” And Jehoshaphat said, “The word of the Lord is with him.” - 2 Kings 3:11-12
World leaders today do not know how to solve the world’s complicated problems and cannot without Christ. Wise politicians still inquire of God’s ministers for Biblical, spiritual insight and practical answers!
- The Elisha Generation Will Greatly Advance The Kingdom Of God. (1 Kings 19:19) “So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen.” Elijah needed help and in seeking for a certain kind of man, he found Elisha. A lot of people are waiting on God to do what they are supposed to be doing. Your part is to get in the yoke with Jesus. You not only want to be part of a great church - you want to help make it a great church. Join up and then show up!
- The Elijah Generation Is Looking For An Elisha To Pass The Mantle To. Spiritually speaking, we have to invest in the next generation. When Elijah found Elisha, he threw his mantle on him. Elisha left the oxen and ran after Elijah. If you want to get what your mentor has, you have to be where your mentor is and spend time serving them faithfully. (1 Kings 19:20) “Please let me kiss my mother and my father and then I will follow you.” And he said go back again, for what have I done to you? In other words, “If you’re not serious - go back, I will withdraw the opportunity!”
- To Grasp The Baton, You Must Press Relentlessly Forward. “So Elisha… took the oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen’s equipment and gave it to the people… Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.” (vs21) Elisha burned his bridges behind him. He got rid of all his small ideas and said goodbye to earthly ambitions. He stuck to Elijah like glue for the next several years and then this happened: “Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” (2 Kings 2:9)
- Faithful Service Produces Favour - Completing Our Assignment Brings Fulfillment. God’s favour helps you get to where you need to be. Elijah wasn’t an easy man to work for! “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels.” (2 Cor 4:7). You don’t get the treasure unless you are faithful and diligent through good times and bad. Then when the time comes - ask! Asking for the double portion meant Elisha wanted to be the rightful successor. He didn’t ask for anything until near the end of Elijah’s assignment. ‘Now Elisha, what do you want me to do for you? I haven’t paid you much!’
- We Come Under The Anointing Of Those We Truly Honour. “My father –my father.” (vs 12) We want the next generation to take off where we leave off - standing on our shoulders so that they can see more, be more, and do more! Always honour those who have stood with you during your years of preparation, believing in you when no one else did. Give double honour to those who placed their mantle on you and gave you what they worked hard to build. Mike Murdock said, “I have always been able to trace someone’s success back to the place where they honoured someone they should honour, and I have always been able to trace someone’s failure back to where they did not honour someone they should honour!” Hazel and I can also testify to this truth!
Yours for the successful transition of the Elijah’s to the Elisha Generation!
