Building for the Generations to Come
“For I have known Abraham, in order that he may command his children and his household after him.” - (Gen 18:18-19)
One key reason God chose Abraham to bless him and make him great, was because God knew he would pass on the generational blessing to his children. It became the ‘God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob’. God gave the promises to Abraham and made the covenant with him. He expanded that promise through Isaac, the child of promise, and established the twelve tribes of Israel through Jacob. He brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, through the wilderness, and gave them the laws of the covenant through Moses. When Moses died, Joshua led the people into the promise land. David became the king of Israel and continued to call upon the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God of our forefathers is your God also.
Psalm 78:1-7 “Tell the generation to come: That they may make them known to their children; That they may set their hope in God.” Any other hope in money, family, or position is temporal and unstable at best. Victory Churches International, for example, is a first generational movement, not a single generational movement, continuing to many generations.
We need to pass on the generational blessing to our children. (Psalm 71:17-18) Each generation builds on the previous generation. (Psalm 37:25, 2 Tim 1:5) The next generations should be able to stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before them and take off where they left off. One philosopher said, “to live life without knowing what has happened in the past, is to live life as a child.” Thank God for all the Bible heroes, all the great champions in the faith over the last few centuries, but they are all dead now. Now it’s our turn!
Proverbs 6:20 “My son, keep your father’s command, and do not forsake the law of your mother.” It is the parent’s responsibility to pass on this blessing through the Word of God, lifestyle, and prayer. The Word you teach your children will guide them as they walk through life. (Prov 6:22) “When you roam they (the Scriptures) will lead you. When you sleep, they (the Scriptures) will keep you; and when you wake, they (the Scriptures) will speak with you.”
Remember your Victories so you can pass them on
- Replaying your past victories in your mind and writing them in a book will give you strength and courage.
- Recount them in the ears of the Joshuas. Share your victories with the next generation.
- Pre-play your future victories in your imagination. What do you see for the future?
The old and young need to build and fight together. (Prov 20:29) “The glory of young men is their strength, And the splendor of old men is their gray head.” (Acts 2:17) “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.”
Read Nehemiah 4:14 – ‘Fight for your sons, daughters, wives, lands.’ Remember the battle is not over your past or your present, it is over your future and the future generations to come.
Yours for building and empowering the generations to come!
