"The glory of the latter [house] shall be greater than the former” (Haggai 2:9)
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” (John 14:12)
Jesus promised that the church would do greater works than He did! But much of the church today operates far below that level of power and authority.
Learning from Samson
Samson is a type of the church, and of the Spirit-filled believer who breaks covenant with God. Samson was called and empowered by God to be a great deliverer of God’s people. At one point Samson lost his power - like much of the church has today. But if you know how and why you lost your power, you can figure out how to get it back!
Devastation Starts with Isolation
Samson was a loner. When times of trouble came, he did not have a covenant-trusted friend to speak into his life and advise him. This led him into some dangerous liaisons.
Judges 16:1 “Now Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there, and went in to her.”
Judges 16:4-5 “Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him.”
Isolation Leads to Lack of Judgment
Samson was in a lonely, worldly, backslidden condition, and Delilah’s lap started to look pretty good. But he stayed too long, he talked too much, and he eventually lost everything. Delilah may delight you tonight, but she will destroy you tomorrow.
Judges 16:19-20 “Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head…. his strength left him…. he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.”
Lack of Judgment Leads to Loss
The Philistines finally captured Samson, imprisoned him, cut off his hair, and put out his eyes. He lost his Power, his Sight, his Freedom, and his Dignity. Judges 16:22 “However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaven.”
Much of the church today has lost its Covenant Power. But the hair is beginning to grow again! Fresh commitments to Christ and His church are being made worldwide! It’s time for the church to stand up once again in its God-Given Might!
Recommitment Leads to Restoration
In verses 28-30 Samson prayed, “Remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just one more time…"
I have prayed this prayer many times and God has strengthened me over and over again in times of weakness.
Lord, remember us! We are the church where Peter’s shadow and Paul’s handkerchiefs once healed the sick, drove out demons, and turned whole cities to God! Do it again Lord! Strengthen us just one more time for an end-time harvest of souls!
Yours for the Restoration of End-Time Covenant Power!
